Human-centered, values-driven
student philanthropy to create
sustainable revenue for schools.
Our mission is to help every student find personal achievement and build their self-worth, sense of purpose, and connection to community through their school fundraising efforts.
Increase Fundraising ROI
KindClock enables schools to capture more revenue than sales-based fundraisers with zero profit sharing on the donations students raise.
The KindClock platform builds a data trust of kindness to benefit the schools, students, their communities, and researchers in fields such as pediatrics, mental health, and education. by securely tracks outcomes and de-identified data and delivering usage earnings back to the schools that created the data.
Reduce hidden costs to administrators, teachers and families in terms of time, effort, and out-of-pocket-expenses.
Reduce the risks like the ones students take when selling door-to-door or parents alienating co-workers and neighbors.
Remove the burden for many families who often sacrifice to buy products and struggle to find customers.
Traditional sales model of school fundraising devalues the time and
out-of-pocket expenses that teachers, staff, students, and parents must commit.
KindClock anchors human-centered perspective and design in its brand and business models to prioritize actions over money, which means students from financially struggling families won’t be left out.
The platform’s user-centered interface is designed to reinforce individual awareness of connectedness, affirm self-value, improve future orientation, and help students become empowered through the realization of their own personal impact.
Fundraising activities like dance-a-thons do build community but can be “ableist” and thus exclusionary, in addition to the difficulties of producing such events. KindClock seeks to be the means of efficiently scaling the “thon” idea in a way that is equitable, accessible, and of highest benefit to the individual students and the community.
How It Works
Schools pay nothing to use KindClock fundraising for their students.
The program is designed to be implemented for a minimum of one semester with a goal for year-long campaigns.
To start, our support team helps school districts to define the goals for their KindClock fundraising based on four inputs:
Budget and Student Culture Goals - School Administrators, Teachers
Relevant Topics, Meaningful Outcomes, Personal Motivation - Student Voices
Community Priorities and Market Indicators - Potential Data Trust Users
Standardized Measurement & Quantifying Impact* - United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
*Our ultimate vision is for KindClock to be a global program. Given that there are few worldwide standards for measuring prosocial behavior, we have looked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals as our reference in guiding users to set their local goals
2. The goals are translated into suggested activities and used to create the school district’s fundraising platform. Students can share and add their ideas for goal activities throughout the campaign as well.
Data is generated and collected as users input details about their activities on the platform.
When KindClock processes the data, it shares it back with the district and user via the app and platform. Students interpret their actions and the data and share their experiences in a variety of ways, e.g., journaling, visual and performing arts, and storytelling.
During the fundraising campaign, content and creative inputs are featured on the group’s landing page on the KindClock website and can be also added to the group’s crowdfunding page. Post campaign, the creative inputs are featured at the closing event and used in communications.
By securely tracking outcomes and de-identified data, KindClock is able to share research earnings back to the schools that created the data.
During the campaign period, fundraising revenues are captured predominantly through online donations and sponsorships. After the campaign period, additional revenue is generated from the data trust. School Districts maintain ownership of the data outcomes and the revenue it generates in future research and use. This revenue is delivered to districts and schools in perpetuity for as long as their data is being accessed.
School Revenue Periods
“The current global mental health crisis needs action. Here we show... that the universal practice of kindness is a potentially effective grassroots public health promotion action that could propagate from the individual to the collective.”
A Business Model for Social Impact
The idea of quantifying kindness in dollars, time, and impact is complex but potentially powerful.
• Studies indicate promising results in areas of emotional well-being for users, producing measurable community impact, and generating a ripple effect in economic benefits.
• Communities that prioritize kindness often see lower rates of crime and social service costs.
• Research has suggested that the economic benefits of strong social ties can be in the millions of dollars for larger communities.
• Kindness in the workplace leads to increased employee productivity. Gallup studies show engaged employees can be worth an additional $3,400 in productivity per year for each employee. KindClock seeks to induce these same impacts on health and productivity within schools.
Single Goal, Dual Structure
KindClock is an early-stage social impact startup in the process of building a sustainable school revenue system through a dual business model of a B Corporation and a Foundation. The company is privately-held at this time and is actively working to transition to the dual model, starting first with establishing a nonprofit. We are currently seeking fiscal sponsorship and plan to offer social impact investment opportunities in the near future.
The Value of Time Well Spent
In order to develop the idea for KindClock and understand its potential, we started with a logic model that projects the inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact across four key audiences.
Schools & Districts Resource gaps start to close. Documented measurable improvements in student morale, performance and culture. Stronger relationships in and with the community. Data revenue covers immediate needs and supports achievable longer-term planning.
Student Users & Adult Allies Positive future outlook. Improved self-confidence and self-worth. Empowered to take action. Stronger peer and community connections. Better learning environment and culture.
Local & Global Communities Engaged and connected communities. Local schools have more resources for students and educators. Path develops towards community prosperity. Improved quality of life.
Academic Research & Data Markets Affordable and consistent data makes academic research dollars go farther. Students and schools prosper from revenue and applied research. KindClock establishes sustainable annual revenue for schools that continues in perpetuity for as long as the data is being used.
